The Sony WH-1000XM5 successfully defends the throne. It offers a refined, luxurious listening experience with noise cancellation that borders on magic. The improvements in call quality and mid-frequency silencing make it a superior tool for the modern hybrid worker.
However, the redesign comes with a cost: portability. If you are a traveler who counts every square inch of carry-on space, the fact that these do not fold might be a dealbreaker, and the older XM4 remains a fantastic, more compact alternative.
